The danger of offerring extrinsic incentives to perform an activity that is already intrinsicly motivating is that the activity becomes less enjoyable when a participant is extrinsicly rewarded.
When a student is adverse to study or work, it may be the result of being subjected to years of public education where academic success is rewarded as if learning is not instrinsicly satisfying. For example, some teachers have used homework as a punishment for not producing enough academic content during classtime.

Select one bonus incentive:
Students who struggle with self-destructive behaviors might consider keeping an integrity journal to build awareness of good and bad habits. The details of this challenge are developed on an individual basis.
INTEGRITY CHALLENGE: Give up drugs, cussing, porn, video games, and social media.
$500 per semester is offered to students who agree to not vape, use tobacco, consume alcohol, caffine, nor use cannabis during the school year, both on and off campus. Students agree to not access porn, social media, or video games, even when school is not in session. Students monitor these behaviors with an individualized integrity journal that ledgers offenses and successes. (The ledger can count up indentified replacement positive behaviors, and/or deduct said negative behaviors.) E.g., Students who use caffine or foul language on campus might decrease their stipend by $10 per offense.
Job and College Ready:
Successfully completing the LearnSTEAM program results in a GED and job skills. Afterwards, students can join the Klamath Works crew and/or attend Klamath Community College with 90 credits of free college tuition through Oregon Promise.
